Slurry Hoppers
Future system for efficient manure collection and frequent discharge
Slurry hoppers are a funnel-shaped system designed for collecting and frequently discharging manure under slatted floors in pig houses. Unlike traditional manure pits, the hoppers significantly reduce the surface area from which ammonia can evaporate.
The system ensures:
- Up to 62% lower ammonia emissions
- Up to 92% lower methane and greenhouse gas formation
- Up to 50% reduction in odour
Efficient collection and discharge of slurry
Slurry hoppers are a modern system for collecting and frequently discharging slurry beneath slatted floors. Instead of traditional deep slurry pits, the system uses a funnel-shaped design that reduces the amount of slurry in the barn and minimizes the surface area from which ammonia can evaporate.
The result is a cleaner barn environment, less odor, and significantly lower environmental impact.
Documented reduction of emissions
The system has been tested over several years and proven to:
reduce ammonia emissions by up to 62 %
reduce methane and other greenhouse gases by up to 92 %
reduce odor by up to 50 %
Frequent discharge of slurry prevents methane formation and ensures that less ammonia is released into both the barn and the surrounding environment.
Point extraction and improved air quality
When multiple slurry hoppers are connected, they form a ventilation channel for point extraction. The extraction can be connected directly to a chemical or biological air purification system, which removes up to 80% of the ammonia produced. This provides a significant improvement in air quality — both inside the barn and in the surrounding environment.
Environmentally friendly and flexible design
The SpaceKit slurry hoppers are made in one piece using rotational molding in recyclable HDPE plastic, ensuring high durability and easy cleaning. The system is adaptable to all types of floor profiles and slats and can be used for both new constructions and renovations.
A labor-saving solution
The slurry hoppers have a direct outlet to standard Ø315 slurry pipes, which can be connected to a pre-tank or storage tank. This allows for automatic and frequent discharge with minimal manual effort. The result is a more efficient and sustainable operation – benefiting the producer, the animals, and the environment.
